About
Cluster Funk Studio is a design brand built on silly ideas, hand-drawn art, and a love for storytelling, brought to life through products that make people smile. Founded by artist and designer Brooke Brown, the studio is defined by limited color palettes, layered textures, and hand-drawn details that together create a distinctive, character-rich aesthetic.
Working primarily in Illustrator, Fresco, and Photoshop, Brown explores themes of country and western culture, femininity, southern identity, and mythology, always with a touch of playful wit. Her work strikes a balance between nostalgia and humor, resulting in designs that feel both timeless and refreshingly modern.
Brown is best known for her Western Critters series, inspired by the spaghetti westerns she watched every Saturday with her grandfather, affectionately known as Bop. Each piece blends childlike whimsy with mature storytelling, honoring her Southern roots while evoking a timeless sense of warmth, nostalgia, and joy.
Her collection includes posters, cards, postcards, prints, apparel, accessories, and stickers, all printed on archival-quality materials. You can find Cluster Funk Studio’s creations online, in boutiques worldwide, and at art markets and festivals across the country.
BIO
Brooke NaeCole Craig Brown is the artist and designer behind Cluster Funk Studio. A classically trained conceptual artist, she earned her BFA in Photography and Media Arts, where her early work explored themes of identity and self-perception through the lens of disease.
Her artistic path took an unexpected turn during graduate school when a medical diagnosis reshaped the course of her life. What began as a period of uncertainty became a moment of transformation. As she learned to cope with her new diagnosis and the challenges that came with it, Brown taught herself graphic design and illustration, turning hardship into creative renewal. From that chapter of reinvention, Cluster Funk Studio was born.
Brown’s distinct visual language marked by limited color palettes, layered textures, and a blend of nostalgia and humor emerged from this period of resilience and experimentation. She has worked as a freelance designer for clients ranging from small businesses to major brands, while continuing to develop her own body of work. Her pieces have been exhibited across the United States and are sold in shops worldwide.
